Piano Variations II (2001)

This thirteen minute solo piano work is in one, multi-sectional movement. Generally speaking, it consists of a series of variations on an original, blues-like theme. This theme is stated in its original form in the final thirteen measures of the piece.

Tempo, pedal and articulation markings are precisely notated in the score. The performer is urged, however, to use these markings only as guidelines for interpretation.

Piano Variations II was commissioned with financial assistance provided by The Canada Council for the Arts.  The commissioner, who refused to play the piece, shall remain nameless.  The work was premiered by Timothy Steeves at Memorial University in St, John’s, Newfoundland in 2006.

The composer gratefully acknowledges the encouragement and support of Timothy Steeves as well as The Canada Council for the Arts, but not the nameless commissioner.
